Small Beginnings

The Charles Baxley Foundation, Inc. began with a simple idea from Chad Baxley to host a local golf
tournament to honor our father, Charles Grady Baxley. When the idea was shared with family, what started as a small spark became a roaring fire. We wanted to do something special, not only in memoriam of our father, but for
the greater community in which he lived, served, and thrived.

Charles was engaged in so many different aspects of the community, including engineering consulting at
Mott MacDonald (FKA Hatch Mott MacDonald), serving as President of the Pace Athletic Recreation
Association (PARA) for ten years. He was a resident of Santa Rosa County for over twenty years. Like him, we
choose to serve our community in a variety of ways including youth athletics programs, cancer
awareness and research and community involvement.

Unfortunately, small-cell prostate cancer took his life after a heroic eighteen-month battle. His prognosis
was only twelve months, but he fought valiantly each day to spend another six months of life. Nearly
every day of those eighteen months was spent serving his family, his employees, and his community. His
resolve never wavered, and it is this resolve he has passed along to all of us at the Charles Baxley
Foundation and Emerald Coast community.

The Charles Baxley Foundation is a chance for us all to take a step back from the bustle of our busy lives
to honor a great man, serve our community in a meaningful way, and commit to standing on common
ground for the greater good.
